August 26, 2026 – This month, we’re excited to recognize Michael Yundt, Ignite SQL Server Database Administrator/Developer, who supports our U.S. Air Force customer in Montgomery, Alabama.
Michael’s journey is one of dedication, expertise, and a deep commitment to serving others, both in uniform and now through his work at Ignite.
A Distinguished Military Journey
Michael served in the United States Navy for nine years, retiring in 1992. His service began with intensive training: Boot Camp at the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Electronics School at the Training Support Center Great Lakes, Nuclear Power School in Orlando, and the Nuclear Power Training Unit near Idaho Falls.
These experiences prepared him for his role as a Nuclear Reactor Operator responsible for the precise control and monitoring of reactors powering Navy submarines and aircraft carriers.
Through exceptional dedication and technical ability, Michael concluded his military career as a Reactor Supervisor, which reflects his deep operational knowledge and leadership skills.

- Bremerton, WA
From February 1986 to December 1992, he was stationed aboard USS California CGN-36, first in Alameda, California, and later in Bremerton, Washington beginning in 1990.

Michael’s service taught him attention to detail, discipline, and a strengthened appreciation for the United States. Exposure to cultures around the world deepened his gratitude for home and shaped his global perspective.
Transition to Ignite
After leaving the Navy, Michael joined the faculty of Oregon State University’s Nuclear Engineering Department, contributing to the AP‑600 (APEX) project. This experience sparked his interest in database development and programming. His programming skills were entirely self‑taught, demonstrating the same persistence and curiosity that defined his military career.
Today, Michael applies that expertise to support Ignite’s mission‑driven programs, helping ensure systems and data processes run efficiently for the U.S. Air Force program he supports and the Warfighter communities he serves.

“It means…I understand who the true clients are and who I am working for. It means this is not just a job, but an opportunity to hopefully make someone’s tour easier or more efficient.”

“Make the most of it. Learn and do all you can. Don’t whine and complain. Know that every role, however big or small, is important. Do your work completely, accurately, and to the best of your ability.”
